Last week we began the challenge of testing styles known to be favorites with thrifters and collectors. We all know owls are "hot" but when does it go to far? What makes one item more desirable than another in the same style? So we're back to testing tried and true styles. This week the item also happens to be one that W very much dislikes, but I pretty much dislike it as well. After I got home from the estate sale where I purchased this week's questionable item - I sat looking it wondering what I was thinking when I paid for it. Please tell me I'm not the only person this has ever happened to!
The questionable find this week is indeed an owl. Rather two owls. This little utilitarian piece is meant to hold letters and bills. It could be meant to hold napkins on a cheery kitchen table - but since the bottom piece isn't solid, I'm leaning toward bills. The owls are made from resin or lucite with bits of brass hardware holding the whole thing together. What do you guys think? A treasured piece of 70s kitsch or an owl that should have stayed hidden in a tree? Let's vote!
